It’s less than a week until Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa! From our family at CCT to yours, we wish you the very best that this season has to offer. May your family gatherings be drama-free, may you get all of the presents wrapped before midnight, and may you have the right sized screwdrivers and batteries it takes to assemble your gifts. Lastly, may you take some time to reflect on these amazing holidays, to spread love and cheer to those around you and to take time to be grateful for all that you have.
We know that some of you dread the holidays because of the way it magnifies your loneliness, your loss, your infirmities, your stress and your finances; this year try to slow down for a moment and focus on the intangible gifts that you have and those that you can share. Maybe you are a great shower singer… Try taking the neighbor kids around the block to belt out a carol or two. Maybe you are a whiz in the kitchen…Try making an extra meal to take to a family in need of a little respite. Or take a minute to go through your un-wanted clothes, blankets and shoes to donate to folks who might be cold this time of year. There are so many ways to spread holiday cheer without breaking the bank and without added stress. If you have children, little or big, include them in your giving spirit. They will see your examples of creative generosity and hopefully emulate it throughout the year.
At CCT, we are proud each December to be a supporter of the Grapevine, Texas Santa Cops Program.
The Grapevine Police Santa Cops program was started in 1995 by now retired Officer Margie Salame. Santa Cops delivers donated toys to economically disadvantaged children in the community. Through this program, Christmas wishes are fulfilled to over 800 area children each year.
Santa Cops is funded entirely by local donations. It is organized and implemented by Grapevine Police Officers, their families and community volunteers. Santa Cops would be non-existent without the extreme generosity of the people of this great community!
Whether it’s a company shopping spree at WalMart to purchase specific gifts for the kids or a generous donation to support the Santa Cops Program, our involvement in this worthy cause is the highlight of our season.
This year, we were also excited to add another community group to our annual donation program, The Gatehouse in Grapevine.
The Gatehouse is a supportive living community where women — single or with children — in crisis receive safe refuge, ample time, practical resources and healthy relationships to discover new paths for permanent, positive change.
The front office staff chose five angels to sponsor this year, and they shopped ’til they dropped. Three children and three moms were the recipients of care packages that included gift cards, fitness equipment, toys, musical instruments, books and even a cotton candy maker! What a fun way to experience giving this year!
We at CCT hope that you and yours have a wonderful holiday season. Be safe, have fun and remember gratitude.
